A Typical School Day!

Text taken from our New Parent Booklet

The children come to school in a variety of ways, on foot, by bike, scooter, car and by bus. Every morning from 8:50 a.m. the children are encouraged to have a good 5 or 10 minute run around outside to get the blood pumping and oxygen to the brain so they are ready to concentrate and think when they get into the classroom at 9 a.m.   All the children have a minimum of 2 hours of PE every week.

Playtime is around 10:30 for 15 minutes on the village green and in the school grounds.  The children have access to a variety of small play equipment. Staff supervising the playtime session, encourage the children to play and join in themselves whenever possible.

The school is part of the “5 A Day” scheme and a portion of fruit or vegetable is available free to every child in Class 1 on a daily basis. Children in Class 1 can also order milk.  The school has a “Healthy Tuck Shop” selling a variety of seasonal fruit, cereal bars, dried fruit, and when the weather is cold, brown bread toast. Tuck shop is open during morning playtime.

Lunch is from 12:15 until 13:15 and once the children have finished eating and cleared away they play outside with a variety of equipment which encourages them to be active.   On extremely wet days children use Class One during the lunch time play session and have access to a variety of games, drawing paper etc etc.

The whole school get together most afternoons for assembly at 15:10 p.m. and home time is at 15:25.

To ensure the children’s safety the school has adopted the following arrangements for the end of the school day.  Children in Class 1 are only allowed to leave school with their parents. The children are never handed over to any other person unless previously instructed to do so by mum or dad. Class 2 children are able to go home on their own if their parents have advised the school that they are happy with this. Class 2 children who are picked up from school by their parents will be asked to wait inside until they arrive.  Bus children gather together in Class 2 at the end of the day and are escorted to the bus by a member of staff.
